His 2016 album World War Willie appeared on numerous year end top ten lists as did hid his live shows. As American Songwriter said "Nile cranks up the volume and tears into these tunes with the same hunger, passion and exuberance he displays in his legendary sweat-soaked shows." World War Willie was voted Album Of The Year by Twangville Magazine and the song Forever Wild was named Coolest Song In The World by Little Stevens Underground Garage.
Willie has toured across the U.S. with The Who and has sung with Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. With a drive that can only come from a history of hard living, Sweets raw connection with the audience sets him apart from his contemporaries. Having shared the stage with such artists as Sarah Jarosz, Slaid Cleaves, Lori McKenna, Chris Smither and Ben Taylor, Sweet has toured all over the US and performed at the prestigious Green River Festival in 2016. Whether playing an intimate solo set or a rockin full band gig, Sweet consistently delivers a stirring performance.
Sweets most recent album, 2016s Road Dog Gospel, pays autobiographic homage to the duality between the freedom and the isolation inherent in the transient life. What started as a real grassroots Kickstarter campaign, Road Dog Gospel started with a handmade sign saying Broke Musician Need Money to Finish Album w/Big Shot Producer and Hot Band! God Bless and a hitchhiking tour of the Northeast. For this album, Sweet teamed up with producer Danny Bernini (NRBQ, Blondie, Martin Sexton, LuxDelux, The Notorious BIG) with the intention of creating an album that captured the essence of his live performance. Recorded live at Spirit House Recording in Northampton, MA, the album is the first of Sweets recordings to truly represent him as a performer, and as a songwriter. The band, which included Ryan Hommel (Pedal Steel and Guitar), Jeff Lynch (Guitar), Riley Godleski (Drums) and Zack Cross (Keyboards), showcases Sweets strong voice and deft guitar picking.
